    Job Summary/Basic Function

    Middle Tennessee State University's Department of Recording Industry is seeking a highly creative individual to join our faculty in the area of commercial songwriting as a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#145140) at the rank of assistant/associate professor. The ideal candidate will be a high-caliber songwriter, performer, and lyricist with a proven track record of success. The start date for the position is August 1, 2022. The position is contingent upon funding.

    The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of professional work as a songwriter and is expected to teach basic and advanced courses in commercial songwriting as well as other courses in their area of expertise (performance, production, writing for specific genres, media, history, or etc). It is also expected that the candidate will conduct research and/or creative activity in their areas of specialization. A demonstrated excellence in teaching, research/creative activity, and service and an interest in working in a diverse workplace with a multicultural student body, faculty, and staff is also expected.

    Required Education

    A terminal degree is required. In lieu of a terminal degree, a Master's degree plus six (6) years of professional experience in the music industry, or a bachelor's degree plus eight (8) years of professional experience in the music industry may be considered.

    Required Related Experience

    At least five (5) years of professional experience in the music industry is required. Please also NOTE the in lieu of experience required that is listed under required education.

    Other Desirables

    Candidates with any of the following will receive special consideration:

    • Proven success writing commercial songs in genres such as pop; rock; hip-hop; R&B; film and television; gaming; and etc.
    • Experience teaching college-level courses and curriculum development.
    • Evidence of strong industry relationships nationally and internationally.
    • Proficiency in one or more of the following disciplines: music recording, demo production, programming, performing, artist development/A&R, or publishing.
    • Proficiency with presentation technology, online course delivery tools, and music technology.

    The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for nine-month tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Audio in the Media Entertainment and Arts program housed in the College of Arts and Sciences’ School of Communication to begin fall 2022.

    The successful candidate will teach courses in the MEA program, have a vibrant research/creative work agenda, and serve as an academic adviser as well as perform other school or university service as needed. Opportunity exists to work with the Student Media Center as well as a variety of other student groups across the school. Primary teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in the sound and recording fields, including intro to audio, studio recording, MIDI and digital synthesis, and other offerings.     The University of California, Los Angeles seeks to make an interdisciplinary tenure-track hire in Music and Data Science to support programs in Musicology and Music Industry. The successful candidate will have: a Masters degree in a research-oriented discipline of the liberal arts or social sciences that provides a framework for approaching music and data as a field of study; significant experience in computation and data analysis; and some practical experience in the music industry, with special preference given to work on algorithms, streaming, analysis of “big data,” or other forms of empirical decision making. Candidates whose work brings critical inter-sectional perspectives to the discourse around music and data, and whose research or practice centers on political, social or economic justice, are especially invited to apply. The department is seeking outstanding candidates with the potential for exceptional research, and excellence in teaching, and also a clear commitment to enhancing the diversity of the faculty, graduate student population, and of the majors in both Musicology and Music Industry.

     

    In addition to teaching in the current Musicology and the Music Industry curriculum, we anticipate that this colleague will take the lead in developing new courses in music and data science for degree programs in Music Industry, will mentor graduate students in musicology, ethnomusicology, and other related fields, and will pursue an interdisciplinary research agenda at the intersection of data science and musicology with applied science, technology, or other relevant fields.     Job Summary

    About The Department of Music & Performing Arts Professions and The Music Business Program: The Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions was established in the Steinhardt School at New York University in 1925. In 1968, the Department merged with the New York College of Music, the oldest conservatory of music in New York City.     The Eugene S. Pulliam School of Journalism and Creative Media in the College of Communication at Butler University invites applications for an assistant/associate professor or lecturer in Journalism/Sports Media with an expected start date of August 2022.     Job Summary/Basic Function
    Middle Tennessee State University's Department of Recording Industry is seeking a highly creative individual to join our faculty in the area of commercial songwriting as a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#145140) at the rank of assistant/associate professor. The ideal candidate will be a high-caliber songwriter, performer, and lyricist with a proven track record of success. The start date for the position is August 1, 2022. The position is contingent upon funding.

    The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of professional work as a songwriter and is expected to teach basic and advanced courses in commercial songwriting as well as other courses in their area of expertise (performance, production, writing for specific genres, media, history, or etc). It is also expected that the candidate will conduct research and/or creative activity in their areas of specialization. A demonstrated excellence in teaching, research/creative activity, and service and an interest in working in a diverse workplace with a multicultural student body, faculty, and staff is also expected.

    Required Education
    A terminal degree is required. In lieu of a terminal degree, a Master's degree plus six (6) years of professional experience in the music industry, or a bachelor's degree plus eight (8) years of professional experience in the music industry may be considered.

    Required Related Experience
    At least five (5) years of professional experience in the music industry is required. Please also NOTE the in lieu of experience required that is listed under required education.

    Other Desirables
    Candidates with any of the following will receive special consideration:

    Proven success writing commercial songs in genres such as pop; rock; hip-hop; R&B; film and television; gaming; and etc.
    Experience teaching college-level courses and curriculum development.
    Evidence of strong industry relationships nationally and internationally.
    Proficiency in one or more of the following disciplines: music recording, demo production, programming, performing, artist development/A&R, or publishing.
    Proficiency with presentation technology, online course delivery tools, and music technology.
